The Ocean is Important

3 08 2011

I believe the solution to pollution is not dilution. So let’s all make a motion for the ocean!

The oceans are used in many different ways; it produces air to breathe, water to drink, food to eat, and new medicines.  It produces beautiful sites to see, and live near and recreation. The protection for the largest ecosystem in the world needs to be addressed by humans, as the health of the extraordinary ocean is in rapid decline.

The ocean covers 71% of the Earth and is a delicate resource that is often overlooked by humans every day.  However, it should not be overlooked because 25% of the world’s mega-cities are located on a coastline and 80% of the world’s population lives within 60 miles of a coast line (Save Seas). The part of the ocean called the High Seas or Open Ocean covers over 50% of the surface and is the least protected part of the world (Save Seas). The ocean needs to be re-addressed in its importance by humans before the oceans become even more at risk than they already are.
